The Monkees television show was conceived to cash in on the phenomenal success of the Beatles and their movie "A Hard Day's Night." However, the Monkees proved to be more than just a cardboard cutout of the Beatles, though they were often referred to as the "pre-fab four." They became a very popular group with a sound all their own.
