You hear the drone of the helicopter, smell the morning air, feel the wind on your face. Suddenly your blindfold is removed. You look around. The scene is pristine, almost primordial – as if no one has ever set foot here. You watch the helicopter shrink in the unfamiliar sky. You look into the face of your recently assigned partner you've and the only thing you know is that you are “LOST.”

NBC's new alternative program “LOST” breaks down adventure into its rawest form as it takes what viewers know about "reality" shows and strips it to the barest essentials -- thereby rewarding the best in all of us.

Three pairs of strangers – who aren't teammates until they arrive at the secret drop location -- have only a small amount of money between them. They are supplied with basic survival gear – all of which must be carried on their backs. There will be no maps, no credit cards and no means of communicating with friends or family. Each of the three two-person teams (accompanied by an equally uninformed cameraperson) has a single goal: to reach the Statue of Liberty first. The first team to arrive will split $200,000.

“LOST” is a global adventure with every turn unexpected. Players might find themselves sleeping on swampy ground one night and in the honeymoon suite of a grand hotel the next -- or not sleeping at all. They will walk for hours, even days with a heavy pack in tow. They may trek over mountains, hike through deserts or work their way through the jungle. The teams are vulnerable to the landscape, climate, unfamiliar cultural traditions, and an endless language barrier.

To win, each pair must stay together and work together. Personal disagreements, a wrong turn, or bad instincts can give opponents an hour, day or week's lead. They will have to rely not only on each other, but also on the kindness of strangers. The cameraperson cannot guide or influence their decisions and the producers will intervene only in an emergency. The contestants will be on their own.

“LOST” is reality programming that speaks to the best attributes in each person -- ingenuity, teamwork, tenacity, luck and sheer force of will drive the competition. There are no missions to complete; no moles to uncover; no alliances to ferret out. There are no votes to cast – and no host to count them. Above all – there is no way to quit. This is adventure at its most primal and most compelling with no gimmicks to get in the way of the real-life human drama of being “LOST.”
